Mike Ducey, a long-time fixture on the Quad City volleyball scene, was hired as head coach of the Augustana men’s program in May of 2019. Ducey stepped into the Vikings’ head coaching role after serving as an interim assistant coach during the 2019 season.

“I am pleased that Mike has accepted the invitation to lead the Augustana men's volleyball program,” said Director of Athletics Mike Zapolski at the time of Ducey's hiring. “I am confident that he will quickly put his mark on the team through his coaching style and recruiting efforts. Mike has been a stable fixture in the Quad Cities volleyball community for many years, and during the interview process he articulated a compelling vision to move the program forward.”

In two seasons leading the Augustana program, Ducey has guided the Vikings to an overall record of 21-16 and a CCIW mark of 12-6. After a 4-2, third-place finish in the league during his first season, his 2021 squad finished 8-4 and in a three-way tie for second place.

From 2013 to 2018, Ducey was the head coach of the girls’ program at Moline High School in Moline, Illinois. He led the Maroons to a record of 139-38 and three Western Big 6 championships while mentoring four consecutive Dispatch/Argus Area Players of the Year.

In October of 2005, Ducey co-founded Platform Elite, a club program dedicated to increasing exposure for players from the Quad Cities and surrounding areas. As the organization’s Director of Coaching, he helped a total of 61 student-athletes obtain Division I scholarships and numerous others realize playing opportunities at the Division II, III, NAIA and junior college levels. In 2009, he was named Iowa Region Male Coach of the Year.

Starting in 1998, Ducey spent four seasons coaching at his alma mater, Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. While still a student, he served as junior varsity head coach for the Yellowjacket women and in 2000 became an assistant at the varsity level, where he helped develop four NAIA All-Americans.

Ducey’s playing career at Graceland included a 1998 NIRSA national championship, All-America honors in 1999 and induction to the school’s Wall of Fame. He continued to play after college, competing on an AA Division team that won a USA Volleyball Open Championship in 2006. In 2005, he was a first team All-Tournament selection.

A graduate of Moline High School, Ducey earned his bachelor of science from Graceland and owns USA Volleyball CAP and Gold Medal coaching certificates, as well as State of Illinois coaching accreditation.

“My family and I are thrilled to be a part of the Augustana Viking family. I am humbled to be selected to lead this great program in the early stages of development,” said Ducey. “With the combination of great student athletes and fantastic athletic department support this next step coaching choice was a very exciting ‘yes’”.

Mike and his wife, Stefanie, reside in Moline, Illinois with their four children, Collin, Nolan, Kathryn, and Mason.
